FROM THE LEGAL DEPARTMENT
Over the last several years, there have been too many incidents where children have been exposed to lead tainted products. As a result, federal law now requires that domestic manufacturers and importers certify that children’s products meet new safety standards. Although sellers of used children’s products, such as pinstripes & polka dots, are not required to test or certify their products, we do intend to make every effort to ensure that we do not pass along potentially harmful products to you and your children.
For products such as cribs and play yards, we will only accept those items that have their original packaging, proof of purchase or owner manuals. Under no circumstance, however, will we accept children’s products that may contain lead, such as the following: children’s jewelry and painted wooden or metal toys; flimsily made toys that are easily breakable into small parts; toys that lack the required age warnings; and dolls and stuffed toys that have buttons, eyes, noses or other small parts that are not securely fastened and could present a choking hazard for young children.
In keeping with our commitment to children’s safety, we will also not accept any used car seats for consignment. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recommends that parents not purchase used car seats unless they know the history of the car seat and can confirm that it has not been in a moderate or severe crash.
In all of these matters, pinstripes and polka dots would rather err on the side of caution. We appreciate your understanding.
