Tagging Your Items for Sale
After you register online, you will receive your consignor ID within 24 hours. You will need to include this ID on all the tags you place on your items.
Taking a few extra moments to clean and prepare your items will increase the likelihood that they will sell. We suggest you start tagging your best items first. That way if you run out of time, you have completed the items you feel will sell.
NEW FOR FALL 2009!
We are pleased to offer a new way to tag your items. This exciting new feature will dramatically reduce your time invested in tagging!
pinstripes & polka dots has joined forces with TagIt, an innovative computer program that tracks inventory, creates tags and generates sales reports. TagIt offers consignors the option of a FREE download of TagIt Lite (after registering to consign with our website) for a printable tag that will pull from an inventory list you will create!
The free software will be available for a limited amount of time and will expire at the end of the pinstripes & polka dots event.

For those “full time, serious consignors” TagIt offers a 20% discount on the TagIt $24 package. This allows unlimited use of the system and will not expire.
Please visit tagityourself.com for details on which version you wish to use. If you are interested in purchasing the TagIt version and want to use the 20% off discount…please input code: PPDVA41 when prompted at check out.
Handwriting tags is still perfectly acceptable!
We ask that the consignors choosing to hand write tags keep a few things in mind:
- Be sure to keep at least 1″ – 1.5″ of free space at the top of each tag. This ensures that your consignor number will not be torn or cut off at check out. The required space at the top will also ease the check out process when we need to take tags off quickly.
- If you are consigning a small item (like hats, socks etc) and an index card is just too large…feel free to cut the card in 1/2 and proceed as usual (see tagging instructions).
- We are encouraging consignors to let some of their items sell at the 50% off sale, Saturday August 15th from 8am – noon.
Shoppers specifically mentioned that they came just for this part of the sale….if you are not IN LOVE with the item, LET IT GO and let someone else wear it! That is what we are all about, right?
HOW TO HANDWRITE YOUR TAGS

With your index card vertical, leave approximately 1” on the top of the card blank.
- In the upper left corner: YOUR CONSIGNOR ID
- In the upper right corner: D for Donation item (leave blank if you are picking this item up)
- In the lower left corner: Size of item
- In the lower right corner: Price of item. Please price in whole or ½ dollar amount.
- In the lower center: Write FULL PRICE if you DO NOT want your item to be sold at 50% off during the 1/2 price sale Saturday morning.
- Pin or tape tag to the upper right corner of the item (pin should be pinned vertically through the middle of the card, see diagram above).
IMPORTANT: Please be sure your consignor ID is exactly as we gave it to you. We cannot accept any tag that has any cross outs on it (for security and proper payment credits to the consignor). If you make a mistake on your tag, please start a new one.
inventory sheet
Consignors must fill out a complete inventory for the items you are dropping off. You can download an Inventory Sheet to fill out. Excel version | PDF version
Please be sure in account for all items. We will ask that you first make a copy for your records then bring a copy with you along with your items.
how to tag clothing
Tags should be attached with a safety pin to your clothing items. We recommend all clothing be freshly washed and free of wrinkles. We understand that is a huge time commitment and a bit daunting, but there may be a nice payoff in the end!
We also recommend snipping any loose threads and just giving every item a good look to ensure it has the appearance of never being worn. If you cannot get stains out of any garment, we cannot allow it at the event.
Maternity clothes will be accepted. Please be sure all clothing items are freshly washed and pressed an hung on a plastic hanger for drop-of. We cannot accept outdated maternity items.
HANGING YOUR CLOTHES
For ease of shopping, please hang your clothing on plastic hangers with the hook of the hanger to the left and the tag safety pinned to the right lapel. The hanger should make a question mark if you are looking at the front of the clothing. If you are consigning a two-piece outfit, please affix clothing to the hanger with large safety pins. Do not attach pieces to each other to avoid damage to the outfit. If you are consigning pants, please pin the wasteband to the shoulder portion of the plastic hanger with safety pins (3″ safety pins work perfectly!)
SHOES
In an effort to keep shoes in pairs, please tie them together using string or ribbon. For shoes without laces, please find some way to attach the shoes together. We are sorry that we cannot accept shoes with excessive wear on the shoes themselves or the laces. Please be sure you have taken time to clean your shoes prior to drop-off. **We are now asking that you do not put shoes in Ziploc bags! Shoes sell better when they can be touched and inspected.
MISCELLANEOUS CLOTHING ITEMS
- Belts should be hung over the hook of a hanger and tied securely onto the hanger with a ribbon.
- Neckties should be hung on a hanger and tagged.
- Mittens should be safety pinned together with a large safety pin (3″) and tagged.
- Scarves should be folded over the bar of the hanger and pinned into place so they do not slide off.
- Hats should be tagged with a safety pin.
- Swim goggles and hair ties should be placed in a Ziploc bag with tags taped securely on the back.
- Bathing suits we ask that these are washed well and hung on a hanger. Please do not put safety pins through girl’s suits! Be sure it is a two piece, just tie the pieces together using a ribbon then pin the tag to the tag on the suit.
furniture and cribs
We are happy to accept furniture items, as these items are typically great selling pieces. Please bring in your cribs, toddler beds, bunk beds, changing tables, dressers, children’s book shelves etc.
The best way to ensure a selling price that meets your expectations is to pay close attention to detail. Items should show very little signs of wear, be clean and in good condition. If you question whether a particular furniture item would be accepted or not, please send us an email with a photo attached.
Furniture sells best when it is fully assembled, so bring any tools you may need for assembly.
IMPORTANT: Please be aware of our restrictions on cribs and play yards, which we will need to strictly enforce. Cribs must meet very strict safety standards. We will uphold all requirements of the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Be sure to check this site thoroughly if you plan on consigning a crib.
toys
We can only accept toys that are in full working condition. Any toys, games, puzzles etc. with missing parts or pieces will not be allowed. Please be considerate to the families shopping the sale. All items in Ziploc bags will need to have the tag securely taped to the back. Remember to seal all bags with clear packing tape to ensure the bag does not open prior to purchase.
IMPORTANT: Please be aware of our restrictions on toys, play jewelry, chipped paint or poorly constructed toys. We will strictly enforce this new regulation.
LARGE TOYS / OUTDOOR EQUIPMENT
Please be sure that all outdoor toys are cleaned thoroughly prior to drop-off. While we understand that they are meant for outdoor use, these items will be more likely to sell if they are free of dirt.
CLEANING TIP: A Mr. Clean Magic Eraser works great on these items!
SPORTS / COSTUMES
Don’t forget about those soccer cleats or hockey skates! We will also need sporting goods at the event! The same rules apply to sporting good as with other outdoor toys and equipment: items must be as clean as possible and free of dirt.
BATTERY-OPERATED TOYS
Please install working batteries into all battery-operated toys. Shoppers will need to be able to turn on the toy and see that it is fully functioning.
TOYS WITH SMALL PIECES
If you have a toy that has small pieces, we ask that you place the small parts in a Ziploc bag and tape this bag securely to the main toy with clear packing tape. Be sure that the shopper can still see and work the toy, even with the bag affixed. We cannot accept toys with missing parts.
GAMES AND PUZZLES
All games and puzzles must be checked to ensure all pieces are included. Please tape boxes closed and affix the tag (to the bottom) with clear packing tape. We will not accept games or puzzles with missing parts.
BOOKS, VIDEOS and CDs
Books need to be free of tears or stains. Please have any book jackets on the hard cover books when you bring them in at drop-off. Videos, DVDs and CDs should be in their boxes or cases at drop-off. Check that the DVDs and CDs are free of scratches as this creates a skip or impairs the viewing / listening.
Please tag books by taping the tag to the inside front cover with masking tape to ensure easy removal of tag. Please tag videos, DVDs and CDs by taping the tag to the back of the case.
infant items
We are accepting swings, bouncy seats, all strollers, jumper seats, high chairs, mobiles, vaporizers, exo-saucers, play gyms, boppy pillows and covers, pack-n-plays, bassinets, rocking chairs, baby gates, bedding, bumbos, bathtubs, monitor sets, changing pads and covers, children’s décor, rugs, diaper genies, wipe warmers, bottle warmers and breast pumps (excluding attachments or tubing). Please be sure these items are all gently used.
ONESIES: We know how important onesies are for every infant! And we know how much they get used. Please pay close attention to ANY stains or excessive wear, especially around the leg and neck areas. We are asking you to gather your onesies in groups of three. Place all three onesies in a Ziploc bag. Onesies will have to be checked at drop-off so please do not tape the Ziploc closed (we will have tape available at drop-off to close these bags). Please tape the tag to the back of the Ziploc with clear packing tape.
SOCKS: Please gather socks in groups of 3. Put the 3 pairs into a Ziploc and we will tape it shut at drop-off.
HAIRBOWS: Please place hair bows in groups of 2 and place in a Ziploc bag and tape bag closed with clear packing tape.
BIBS: Please place 1 bib in a Ziploc bag and tape it closed with clear packing tape. Bibs should have no stains.
BLANKETS: All blankets should be hung over a hanger and tagged on the right side (looking at the item) of the blanket. Secure tag with a safety pin on both sides, close to the hanger.
BEDDING: Bedding should be rolled and tied nicely with a ribbon. Please be sure to accurately describe the bedding on the tag…flat sheet or fitted sheet etc.
FEEDING SUPPLIES: We are not accepting pacifiers or bottle nipples. We are not accepting any BPA plastics…any plastic cup or feeding wear with the recycling numbers of 3, 6 or 7 on them will not be taken. These numbered plastics have been shown to have increased levels of hazardous chemicals that could prove harmful to children. We apologize for any inconvenience on this specification. Any feeding sets (plates, cups and utensils) please keep together and place in a Ziploc bag and please secure with tape. Place tag to the back of the bag, please. We ask that there be no painted or chipped plates and cups.
PLEASE visit recalls.gov and/or the Consumer Product Safety Commission to ensure all products meet standard requirements. Remember, the safety of the children is our main concern!
MULTI-PIECE ITEMS
We will use a table and 4 chairs as an example.
The table will be tagged with a description: “table with 4 chairs; 1 of 5 pieces”
Each chair would then have a tag with the same description while the piece’s number changing.
Chair: “table with 4 chairs, 2 of 5”, the next chair will follow with 3 of 5 and so on.
Please price the largest item of the set.
Please only put a price on one piece of each set.
